‘Guntur Kaaram’ movie review: Mahesh Babu delivers the same old dish, served with an extra dose of chillies,
Director Trivikram Srinivas and Mahesh Babu’s ‘Guntur Kaaram’ is a stale rehash of old stories
After wreaking havoc in a luxurious mansion, Venkata Ramana Reddy (Mahesh Babu) walks away and takes a moment of reflection on a garden bench. He confronts the harsh reality that the trash his mother, Vasundhara (Ramya Krishna), wanted to dispose of wasn’t the expensive crockery or chandelier he broke, but rather himself—the unwanted son. A previous scene had him expressing his willingness to wait until he learns whether the mother-son love is reciprocated. The answer becomes painfully clear in this moment, hitting a raw nerve and standing out amidst an otherwise lackluster narrative in Trivikram Srinivas’ “Guntur Kaaram.” This film marks the director’s third collaboration with Mahesh Babu, following their work together in “Athadu” and “Khaleja.”

“Guntur Kaaram” aspires to be both an emotional family entertainer and a mass/masala film. However, it falls short, resembling a faded amalgamation of Trivikram’s earlier successes like “Atharintiki Daaredi” and “Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.” The film seems to rely on Guntur’s fiery red chillies to add spice, hoping that Mahesh Babu’s dedicated fanbase will find something to appreciate in the mix.
