In the wake of recent elections and allegations of sexual harassment within the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), controversy has escalated following the appointment of Sanjay Singh, a close associate of Brijbhushan Singh, as the president. Wrestlers are expressing opposition one after another. In response to this, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports took a significant decision on December 24, suspending the Wrestling Federation of India.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has been embroiled in controversies for the past 11 months. Earlier this year in January, several female wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, accused the then WFI chief, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, of sexual harassment. Subsequently, many male wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, also expressed their support in protest. The Ministry of Sports had indicated an investigation into the matter.
